Italy
has over 200 thousand archaeological sites, monumental and
architectural historical assets; not counting the landscape ones.
The
Bel Paese holds the world record of historical testimonies considered
by UNESCO as a cultural heritage of humanity: 53 sites to which the
prestigious recognition, against the 52 of China, which boasts a
territory 32 times more extensive.
A
record that, however, entails burdens and responsibilities regarding
its protection and enhancement. To threaten this endless treasure
are, every day, several factors: the hydrogeological instability,
crime and vandalism, the illicit trafficking of works of art and the
state of abandonment in which many cultural goods, the lack of
knowledge and civic consciousness. But above all the negligence.
